La Madonnina of Milan
La Madonnina ("Little Madonna") is a 4.16-meter gilded copper statue of the Virgin Mary atop Milan's Duomo, placed in 1774. As a premier religious and civic symbol of Milan, she symbolizes protection over the city, representing its "heart and soul". "La Madonnina" also refers to the iconic skyline figure, a traditional song, and the AC Milan/Inter football rivalry.
